The SLO Buddhist Church will be starting a Meditation Session on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of November at 10:15 AM before the regular Dharma Service. This will be an introduction meditation practice and it will start with an overview of intensions, postures, and tech-niques to allow everyone to develop the sitting medita-tion practice that works best for them.

In Jodo Shinshu Buddhism, we don’t have a silent sit-ting meditation practice. That doesn’t mean that practicing mindfulness won’t be helpful in our lives. Modern science has shown that mindful meditation can have wide ranging health benefits. Meditation can help reduce stress and anxiety, or improve productivity and focus at work. It can help improve memory, decrease blood pressure, and help you manage pain.

In addition to these well-being benefits, meditation can help develop our understanding of the Dharma. A regular and dedicated meditation practice can improve our Right Effort, Right Mindfulness, and Right Concentration from the Noble Eight-Fold Path.

I have been involved with sitting for several years now, and I have found that meditation practice and techniques have helped me hear the Dharma better in our regular Dharma Services and in my daily life. I’m excited to share this experience with the Sangha.
